March 2009  Selected Recalls

State Farm? Recalls Good Neigh Bears? Due to Choking HazardThe U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission in cooperation with State Farm, of Bloomington, Ill., is voluntarily recalling about 800,000 State Farm Good Neigh Bears. The eyes on these bears can come off, posing a choking hazard to young children.

Valero Marketing & Supply Co. Announce Recall to Inspect Propane Gas; Can Pose Fire and Burn Hazard Valero Marketing & Supply Co., of San Antonio, Texas, is voluntarily announcing a recall to inspect about 919,000 barrels of propane (LP) gas. An odorant is added to propane to help alert customers to a propane gas leak, but this propane might not have the recommended level of odorant. Failure to detect leaking gas can present a fire, explosion or thermal burn hazard.

Maytag Recalls Refrigerators Due to Fire Hazard Maytag Corp., of Newton, Iowa, is voluntarily recalling about 1.6 million Maytag?, Jenn-Air?, Amana?, Admiral?, Magic Chef?, Performa by Maytag? and Crosley? brand refrigerators. An electrical failure in the relay, the component that turns on the refrigerator's compressor, can cause overheating and pose a serious fire hazard.

February 2009  Selected Recalls

Evenflo? Recalls Children's Activity Centers Due to Fall Hazard Evenflo Co. Inc., of Miamisburg, Ohio, is voluntarily recalling 213,000 Evenflo Activity Centers. When used as an activity table, the cap on one end of the product can loosen and fall off, posing a fall hazard to a young child.

Old Navy Recalls Stuffed Toys; Button Eyes Can Detach and Pose a Choking Hazard to Young Children  Old Navy LLC, of San Francisco, Calif., is  voluntarily recalling about 35,500 (in the United States) and 5,400 (in Canada) Stuffed Animal and Creature Toys. The stuffed toys have two button eyes that could detach from the toy, posing a choking hazard to young children.

Intermatic Recalls Digital Timers Due to Shock Hazard In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Intermatic Inc., of Spring Grove, Ill., is voluntarily recalling about 200,000 Intermatic DT17 Heavy Duty Digital Timers. The recalled timers can have a faulty ground connection, posing a shock hazard to consumers.

Bosch? and Siemens? Model Dishwashers Recalled by BSH Home Appliances Corporation Due to Fire Hazard BSH Home Appliances Corp., of Huntington Beach, Calif., is voluntarily recalling about 476,500 Bosch? and Siemens? Model Dishwashers.

Fisher-Price Recalls Simplicity's Rainforest Portable Play Yards Due to Fall and Entrapment Hazards 200,000 Rainforest Portable Play Yards manufactured by Simplicity Inc.

Jardine Expands Recall of Cribs Sold by Babies"R"Us; Cribs Pose Entrapment and Strangulation Hazards  Jardine Enterprises, of Taipei, Taiwan, is voluntarily recalling about 56,450 Jardine Cribs (320,000 units were previously recalled in June 2008). The wooden crib slats can break, creating a gap, which can pose an entrapment and strangulation hazard to infants and toddlers.

Atomic Skis USA Recalls Ski Bindings Due to Unexpected Release, Fall Hazard Atomic Skis GmbH, of Austria, is voluntarily recalling about 125,000 (an additional 1.0 million were sold outside the U.S.) Alpine Ski Bindings. The heel housing of the bindings can crack, causing the binding to release unexpectedly. This can cause the skier to lose control or fall and suffer injuries.

Teknion Recalls to Repair Office Chairs Due to Fall Hazard Teknion LLC, of Toronto, Canada, is voluntarily recalling about 60,000 Contessa Office Chairs. The bolts holding the seat to the frame can loosen and separate, posing a fall hazard to consumers.

Evenflo Recalls Majestic? High Chairs Due to Fall and Choking HazardsEvenflo Company Inc., of Miamisburg, Ohio, is voluntarily recalling about 95,000 Evenflo Majestic High Chairs. Plastic caps and metal screws on both sides of the high chair can loosen and fall out, posing both fall and choking hazards to children.

Grease Removers Recalled by Fantastic Distributors Due to Chemical Burn Hazard Fantastic Distributors, of Brooklyn, N.Y., is voluntarily recalling about 245,000 "Bagi Shumanit" Super Cold Grease Removers. Direct contact with this substance can cause burns to consumers' skin and eyes. The product lacks required special packaging and warning label.

Arctic Cat Recalls Snowmobiles Due to Fire Hazard In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Arctic Cat Inc., of Thief River Falls, Minn., is voluntarily recalling about 10,000 Model Year 2009 Arctic Cat Mountain Cat and Crossfire Snowmobiles. The mounting hardware securing the fuel pump can allow fuel to leak, posing a fire hazard to consumers.
