Insurers Have a C.L.U.E. About You

The Comprehensive Loss Underwriting Exchange (C.L.U.E.) is a database of information about home and car owners.  It enables insurers to use claims information as part of the underwriting and rating process.

Some consumer groups complain that it fails to differentiate real claims from inquiries about possible claims, and for that reason frequently gives an unfair skew to a homeowner's score.   Realtors have also complained about the system's ability to interfere with the sale of homes.

So, be sure to get acquainted with your C.L.U.E score if you have ever had a claim.  Make corrections to any errors, just as you would with your credit report.   It will help cut your insurance costs.
